He certainly witnessed the change imposed by Midhat Pasha, who demolished part of the old city to implement a new town planning scheme.

He put a tramcar, built a new hospital, the aqueduct, and the only bridge on the Tigris that existed until the XX century. He also imposed the annexation of Kuwait.
